Breathwork for relaxation and enhanced mood
Hello there, Jake here :)
Here’s a quick breathwork protocol you can practice right now. It’s called the physiological sigh.
It’s 2 inhales through the nose (one big, one smaller) then 1 long exhale through the mouth until lunges are empty.
You can do it once, or you can set a timer on your phone and practice for 5 minutes.
According to our favorite neuroscientist, Dr. Andrew Huberman, you can alleviate exercise cramps in the right side using about 3 physiologic sighs – this specific cramp is related to misfiring in the phrenic nerve.
A left side cramp is likely related to excessive air or fluid in the stomach (not alleviated by breathing).
So go ahead, give yourself a physiological sigh. Exaggerate the exhale. Send a message to your nervous system to relax. Feel your mood elevate.
Enjoy the rest of your day.
