I caught myself in a situation the other day. Did I want to prove my point? Or did I want to keep the job moving forward?
Of course I wanted to prove my point. I wanted to be heard and understood. But I didn't have time if I wanted to get the job completed.
Now it's a week later and I'm soo glad I didn't give in to that desire. The urge to prove my point is completely gone.
These situations happen to us every day, big and small.
One of the oldest practices in the world that can help us is called negative visualization.
You're frustrated with someone? Just imagine them being gone. It may put your frustrations into perspective, and you might realize that most of what happened simply doesn't matter anymore.
William B. Irvine has been one of the most influential teachers I've come across for this stoic practice. This is a YouTube gem right from the source. Enjoy!
